Sick Product of a Sick System
Great Film overall
I hate seeing Adelaide Clemens in such a bad movie, normally I would watch anything with her in it. I rarely stop watching a movie once I start, but this one I just couldn't watch. It probably appeals to the game players, that's the only reason I can think of for it getting a 5 rating instead of a 1. If you aren't a fan of the game, don't waste your time. I could list the reasons it's so bad but that would waste more of my time.
This film is a sequel to "Silent Hill" and, although the semi-open end of the film allows to guess the sequel, I did not expect it to be any better than the original. And I hit it. This movie is frankly worse than the first one. It kept the impressive CGI that terrifyingly frightened us in the first film, but is no longer able to make us jump out of the chair. It simply lost that impact. It gets worse when the story fails to obtain the indispensable credibility. It is simply unbelievable and even goes against the first film. The poor script is reinforced by a miserable and unhappy direction, both by Michael J. Bassett. None of the actors in the movie lived up to expectations, which only tells us how bad the director's performance was. This film further proves that a good screenplay and a good director are essential to the success of a movie, and that a good sequel should at least keep part of the original film crew.
I can not take credit for this. My co-worker wrote this and it is the BEST: 1. Watch the movie 2. Read this review ASAP after (I swear sitting through this awful movie to read this review is probably worth it)My Silent Hill Redemption synopsis: A blonde girl who needed her roots dyed got a spooky vest for her early birthday present which transported her to an underground carnival that was on fire where she met her boyfriend's mom (saw face), a grumpy mannequin spider with a face in a face in a face, and a metal duck. She gave megatron to a crazy old man who grew big muscles and tried to kill her. Later, her new boyfriend helped her reconnect with her sister by siphoning out her soul with a power hug. The end.
Silent Hill 2 (or 'Revelation' as they prefer to call it) could have been so much worse. At least it does follow on well from the first film, but it's basically a young woman walking from scene to scene, encountering one nasty monster after the next (much like the computer game it's based on I would imagine!). It follows the daughter of the first woman to get lost in the sinister town of Silent Hill. When her father also gets taken, she sets out to save him.It could so easily have been lost in the multitude of bargain basement horror films infesting the DVD shelves, but at least it has a budget. The monsters are nice (or rather nasty, depending on how you look at it). There are some pretty sick ones hissing and spitting their guts out all over Silent Hill. There is probably a little too many computer-generated special effects. Some are pretty obvious and take the viewer out of the film, but the ones that are actually there, i.e. the grisly masks, make up for it.Plus the cast is good. The young woman at the centre of the film is believable and not just a 'scream queen.' Then there's the ever-reliable Sean Bean, reprising his role as her father. And, if you can ignore his slightly dubious attempt at an American accent, you'll see that he's an integral part of the film.I didn't watch the film in 3D, so I can't comment on how the 3D element looks. I'm guessing that there are only a few moments which really stand out (things like axes etc thrown at/near the screen).Basically, if you liked the first Silent Hill movie, or are a fan of the game, you'll probably get some enjoyment out of this film. It's not brilliant, but when compared to a lot of the latest horror films, it could have been so much worse.
