When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
When the first realize they can't get back on the boat they try one thing then doggy paddle for the next hour or two before trying something else. So many things they could have tried that they didn't. The movie was frustrating in that regard. However, if they used their brains then there wouldn't be a movie. I could go on and on and dissect their idiotic actions but ill allow you to judge the movie for yourself. Bottom line... not a bad movie, definitely keeps your attention but frustrating to say the least. Im not gonna even get into the end scene that leaves you scratching your head and what is going on. You'll see what I'm talking about.
Why is there not a single sea animal throughout this movie? Even when the guys start getting idiotically beaten up with their blood in the water? You're telling me that wouldn't/didn't attract a single shark? They're in the middle of the ocean for crying out loud! The first Open Water I can buy because it seemed pretty realistic but not this one.
Although this carries the same name as the first film, it's not a direct sequel, though it has roughly the same premise as the first with a difference in how they're stranded out at sea in the first place. The story is similar, but in this case, it's a group of young adults who go sailing out at sea for a sort of "Holiday Getaway" with sex, drugs & booze! But they stupidly forget to mount the ladder on the side of the boat for them to get back on! So the frustration here is the warm boat with food, drink & supplies in right next to them & the only thing keeping them from that, is a damn ladder! Pretty much like the first but with a different way on how they're stranded! The film like that first, wasn't great, it was pretty boring at points & didn't have much action going on. It was pretty much the first film only more people (younger) & a slightly different direction in the stranded theme basically! The blaming, the b!tching & the characters get on each others t!ts was present like the first one too, only in a larger quantity! There wasn't much going on. No sharks. No sea mines. No Gore & I mean full fledged gore! It was like the first one pretty much & being fair, as I'm writing, can't say anymore than what I've said as it didn't have much going on aside from a large chunk of the film revolved round the group b!tching at one another! It was annoying to say the least & the ending also with the female soul survivor was bad too. Now to say the least, this WAS slightly better. The premise was a bit more believable & somewhat better with a sense of sinisterness emitting from it, but it could've been better, much like the first which was lacking also.I overall would give this a 2/10. It was slightly better than the first film but only by slightly as much like the first, this film had little going for it & could've been so much better with action in it, even if it was bad CGI it would've been great, this goes for the first film too.
I really enjoyed the original 2004 film, which was a home-made little indie movie in the tradition of "Blair Witch" and "Paranormal Activity" that takes off and becomes a mainstream hit. I saw this movie, and figured, okay, it's probably a direct-to-video title with some more familiar faces than the original had, maybe a little bigger budget, but will probably be god-awful. Well, it wasn't actually as bad as I expected. The premise of the original is this couple is out on a scuba diving expedition in the Caribbean Islands somewhere I think-??- and get left behind by their instructor to fend for themselves in the shark-infested "Open Waters". This one really doesn't have anything to do with the original, other than having a similar premise. The premise of this one is that these three couples are out on their friend's yacht, enjoying the ocean. One of them panics, and they all jump in the water to save her not realizing no one let the ladder down... Okay..would this really be a major problem?? I'm not terribly familiar with the whole mechanisms involved here, so I didn't have an issue with it. I was on board. Now they, like the couple in the original film, have to fend for themselves in the middle of the ocean in shark-infested "Open Waters". But this one, unlike the original, instead of it being "man against beast", it was more "man against man", as they start to turn on each other one by one.So overall, I'm a bit on the fence on this one- probably a marginal thumbs-down. See it if you liked the original, and have nothing better to do some Saturday afternoon, otherwise- if you haven't seen it already- watch the original 2004 film instead...
