Why so much hype?
Very Cool!!!
This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
Ted Kramer's wife leaves her husband, allowing for a lost bond to be rediscovered between Ted and his son, Billy. But a heated custody battle ensues over the divorced couple's son, deepening the wounds left by the separation. Kramer vs. Kramer showcases very beautifully the challenges of a parent raising his child alone since he has divorced with his wife but also the problems he has to face again when he wants to take his son away from him. First of all Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep were just incredible and that scene between them? was rather electrifying plus very sad and depressing film but in a good way and definitely one of Hoffman's best films in my opinion.
One of the best movies of the 70's. They just don't make them like this anymore. Dustin and Meryl were super good as was little Justin Henry. They made it all come together. An un happy subject matter for sure, but it touches the heart like most films of this ilk do not.Would have liked a bit more background on who watched the boy during Teds work days as he didn't leave early every day to pick him up from school. Should have had scenes like that, and moreover, scenes of Ted and Joannas parents. Surly they were young enough to have had parents who could have helped or at least fit into the scenario. Nothing was even mentioned of them. Minor quibbles to be sure, but it would have made the film a tad bit more realistic.
l watched the first part of this movie in 1987 and turn off the TV after around 30 minutes...too much talking,in fact drama wasn't my favorite kind of movie at all...but now as collector l must to have this movie in my racks So l decided to watch it one more time and today the movie sounds me really fantastic...this kind of drama is always a heavy matters to put on screen mainly when the woman left the house having the kid behind, when the remorse mother appear asking the kid back the case end up in a court house a powerful drama indeed, however l think that Apocalypse Now is more superior than Kramer vs. Kramer and deserved won the Oscar but who cares...the movie is really good but l find it overrated even Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep having a great performance.
This best picture academy award winning film really is deserving of that victory. It's got everything that a great film needs to succeed. First of all, the acting is great, I mean spot on! Meryl Streep shines the most out of all of them, she deserved that best actress Oscar oh so much! She plays the wife of Dustin Hoffman and mother of a 6 year old boy. She decides to leave her husband because she is so unhappy. Her very emotional performance as Joanna is one of the best performances I've ever seen in a movie period. Dustin Hoffman also gives a great performance. His character spends the vast majority of the movie trying to be a better father to his son, learning how to take on both responsibilities of his soon to be ex-wife and his. I also adored the child actor that plays their son in the movie, one of the youngest academy award nominees ever! He is such an impressive young actor, it's amazing to me to see child actors be so professional seeming and mature in their on screen performances. The script for this film is written with such great detail. It really focuses on the father-son relationship, and it also hones in on Joanna and why she left and why she wishes to reconnect with her son after leaving. Love and family is at the heart of this movie. I absolutely adore this film and I suggest it 100%! 9/10 for Kramer vs Kramer.
