Best movie of this year hands down!
This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
Me and Luke Goss go way back. In the '80s, I almost attended the same house party as the aspiring pop star (I knew where it was, but I wasn't invited), and in the early '90s I saw him shopping for CDs in Tower Records on Sunset Boulevard (then again, it might have been his brother Matt). Anyway, I'd have never imagined in my wildest dreams that a local lad could go on to become a major pop sensation, let alone a Hollywood action movie star, appearing alongside such legendary names as Ving Rhames, Sean Bean and Deobia Oparei. No, siree. In Death Race 2, a prequel to Paul W.S. Anderson's Death Race (2008), Goss plays dashing getaway driver Carl 'Luke' Lucas, who is hired by crime boss Markus Kane (Bean) for a bank robbery. When the job goes awry, Lucas is arrested and sent to privatised, top-security penitentiary Terminal Island, where prisoners take part in a televised death match. However, as ratings start to fall, sexy host September Jones (Lauren Cohan) is forced by her ruthless boss Weyland (Rhames) to come up with an even more violent spectacle, The Death Race, in which nine inmates (and their ridiculously sexy female co-drivers) race around the island in armoured vehicles loaded with firepower in a bid to win their freedom. No prizes for guessing that Lucas makes the cut, the driver teamed with hottie Katrina Banks (Tanit Phoenix), who must have been jailed for being criminally sexy.As straight-to-video action sequel/prequels go, Death Race 2 isn't as absolutely awful as it might have been: having clearly spent some time in the gym since warbling 'Drop the Boy', blue-eyed pretty boy Goss actually makes for a fairly impressive action star, and the crazy, stunt-filled race scenes offer enough explosive thrills and excitement to happily sink a few beers to. The film is, of course, throughly preposterous at times, but I have a sneaking suspicion that that may have been the intention. Certainly no worse than the first Death Race movie, Death Race 2 is just about enough fun to make me want to check out part 3, Death Race: Inferno, which is actually a sequel to this prequel, but still a prequel to the original film.
On the same theme i would recommend the dutch movie "Temmink". I fear there is even a similarity close to plagiarism....http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133228/. This one is better though. Mainly thanks to famous actor Jack Wouterse. It's harsh. It's brutal. And it spends more time and attention to the main character's doubts, thoughts and choices. Worthwhile, if you like this sequel of death race. Starring also Jacob Derwig. He could easily start a career in the US. And note the very tasteful depiction of the inevitable violence. As i'm forced to write a minimum of 10 lines, I'd finally say: Viva Holanda!
After a bank robbery something unexpected happens and those involved manage to escape excepting Lucas who is caught and sent to a prison where the most dangerous, unscrupulous murders are locked. The director puts them to a battle to the death witch is broadcast on national TV for the relish of the people. Lucas is immediately forced to participate in order to rescue a colleague who has no experience in any sort of battle. One day hell breaks loose and all the prisoners manage to enter the ring and beat each other so the show must be broken. Since rating are low now they must find other type of entertainment so September comes with the idea to organize a race till the death with modified cars where they can have access to weapons and other items. If this sequel included Jason Statham it would been much great. We see the actor who is replaced how is trying to be as good as him but can't. Even so the looks are similar but the talent is not the same. But a good movie in witch action scenes are present and is not a total disappointment.
The action scenes are about 0,5 seconds before each cut ... awful , epileptics will die watching this idiotic movie ...Maybe the director and producer think they made a really cool movie but the fact is it's complete rubbish ! I hope some day soon this way of making movies dies away and never returns and that people in the future will look back and laugh at these kind of movies.A piece of advice to the director and producers, buy a centrifuge, fill it with colored junk, let it rotate like crazy and then film it ... that movie will be even more cool than this ... Cool = faster, faster, FASTER FAAASTER!!!!!
