Best movie of this year hands down!
I like the storyline of this show,it attract me so much
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
When I saw Jason and Robert as the stars with Colin thrown in, how in the world can you not buy a ticket to this? I saw the DVD and said I have to have it based on the names alone. These boys are killers in the film and know their stuff. This keeps you glued to the screen to watch them come out and get to work. Well they come out but don't quite rise to the occasion as one may expect. However you keep wanting them to so there is your entertainment. Waiting to see them hit their peaks. Jason does some impressive work but doesn't leave you with a lasting impression of it. Perhaps part of the movie plot is to prove his heart is not in it anymore? As for Deniro, he is there but he isn't there. Watch to see what I mean. Colin makes for a delicious don't mess with me guy and the results are to watch this but I must say it doesn't have memorable scenes making it a comeback experience. The DVD came with deleted scenes which they should have left in and made it a 2.5 hour release. It would have helped the picture some. I don't like it when Hollywood or whoever the powers are when they take name brands and give the impression of a block-buster a callin when it is not. You can only fool people once and shame on them. Fool me twice, shame on me. I will not be shamed. Lets make quality the standard over paychecks boys and we all go home a winner. In your case, your win goes on and on. Keep this in mind on the next flick you boys do.
On the surface, Gary McKendry's Killer Elite has all the makings for a fun, action-packed popcorn flick. Even with talented actors like Robert De Niro, Jason Statham and Clive Owen, Killer Elite fails to be gripping or thrilling due to the stale subject matter and flat direction. There is surprisingly little fun to be had with the mediocre acting from our leads or the dull and forgettable action sequences. Killer Elite rarely realizes it's potential for a fun action flick and ends up just another forgettable and completely disposable bore because of it.It really is hard to criticize Killer Elite for it's dull subject matter as it claims to be based on a true story, but the story told here is nothing we've never heard before. The story is simply "recently retired agent blackmailed to do one final job." Even though it is based on a true story, it still feels recycled and uninspired. Although, there was actually one aspect to the story that was fairly interesting and quite enjoyable. The contracts that were to be carried out by the team must be made to look like accidents, and these short hit scenes were admittedly quite awesome. While these scenes are entertaining and clever, they only make up a small portion of the film's run-time, making the rest an increasingly tedious slog. There is a noticeable lack of substance that plagues Killer Elite as it struggles to generate any interesting ideas or plot developments. Even some of the action scenes lack adrenaline or excitement, due to the shoddily choreographed hand-to-hand combat and gunplay. Killer Elite is certainly watchable, but there are very few redeemable qualities to make you ever want to watch the film again. The story, aside from the assassinations, is mediocre, the characters are flimsy and the action is unimpressive and dull. Even if you are just looking for a fun and disposable action flick, Killer Elite only manages to be completely disposable. An uninteresting story is played out by seemingly uninterested actors, making the entire experience feel cheap. It's impossible to recommend Killer Elite to anyone as the lack of substance makes it a mere skeleton of the film that it could be. Additionally, on a less relevant note, there was something noticeably off about a 68 year-old Robert De Niro wielding a machine gun.
Killer Elite (2011): Dir: Gary McKendry / Cast: Jason Statham, Robert De Niro, Clive Owen, Dominic Purcell, Aden Young: Exhilarating action film about professional assassins poised against each other. Jason Statham plays a professional assassin and Robert De Niro plays his mentor and after an opening scene where Statham makes a kill but unable to kill the victim's son. He ends this line of work and goes back to Australia to live with his girlfriend. Statham is summoned to another job after his mentor is taken prisoner. To bargain for his life Statham is assigned by an ill sheik to kill the four men responsible for the death of his three sons. His remaining son will execute Statham's mentor if he fails. Directional debut for Gary McKendry with much well crafted yet totally implausible action scenes that still rank this as one of Statham's best films. Statham pulls off one of his best roles as he attempts to rendering these kills to appear as an accident. De Niro does well as the mentor whose success with Statham leads to a rescue mission. De Niro will eventually be assigned to watch his girlfriend when Statham is assigned one last job. Clive Owen leads a team sent to prevent the four kills from happening. He is skilled at his job and becomes a great counter to Statham including their satisfying send off. Dominic Purcell and Aden Young steal scenes as members of Statham's team who take risks that turn out costly when a hotel clerk betrays his placement. While the action is silly and over the top, it is entertaining and intelligent right up to the final departure. Score: 9 / 10
Danny (Jason Statham) is a former elite services operative who finds himself having to come out of retirement when he discovers that his mentor Hunter (Robert De Niro) has been kidnapped by an Arab sheikh. The sheikh explains that he will let Hunter go and will pay him the sum of 6 million if he kills the 3 men responsible for killing the sheikh's sons. He calls upon his former associates Davies (Dominic Purcell) and Meier (Ade Young) to assist him with this task. However, this is no ordinary task and Danny and co are being forced to kill highly trained Special Air Services operatives led by Spike (Clive Owen). Will Danny be successful in this mission and ultimately free his mentor? Killer Elite starts off well and the final third of the film was pretty good. For me, the problem was the middle portion of the film which to me was just not particularly engaging, lacking in excitement and it lacked suspense. We have to remember that Danny and his operatives will at best only be as skilled as the Special Air Services members, yet in every single instance when Danny and Spike's operatives battle it out it was always Danny's men that came out on top. This is good so far as cheering on the good guy's goes, but seeing Danny and his boys always getting the upper hand made the film less tense and ultimately less believable. I always feel that the amount of enjoyment that you get from a film depends on how believable you find the characters or their actions and Danny's boys always getting the upper hand so easily didn't ring true to me. Then we come to how repetitive the film was - every time one of Spike's operative got killed we had a board meeting, operative killed, board meeting, rinse, repeat yawn!!!. The twist isn't entirely surprising and I found it to be a 'groan' type twist rather than a 'shock' type twist.Killer Elite isn't all bad and one of its major strengths is in its characters - Statham plays another ass kicker with a heart (it is becoming a bit of a cliché with him, but generally if I like a character then it means that I'll want to root for them). Likewise De Niro's character is also a likable guy. The best character for me in this film was Davies - in all honesty, prior to this film I'd only seen Dominic Purcell in Prison Break and thought he was a bit wooden when he was in that series. However, in Killer Elite he really brought his character to life and I can now see that he is a much better actor than I originally gave him credit for - all this despite his dodgy tash and beard combo lol. The era has also been captured well - lots of 70's car models and retro tunes - I remember 'I fought the law' playing at one point, but I'm sure there were countless other examples.Killer Elite is an OK film where its only really big faults are in its rather dull and repetitive story. I feel a bit bad butchering this film as it is based on a true story, but I just found it hard to get into it. As mentioned, the era was captured well, the characters were pretty cool and the acting was generally good. If only the story had been a bit more engaging.
