Woman and Yes Men also...... will fall in love with this film. For anyone whose ever had a " True " best friend, you will be so Enhanched with Beaches. It's funny, relatable, Sad, Sweet, and so Entertaining. In my opinion, Bette's finest role, since the " Rose ". No word of a lie.......bring along the Kleenex!!!!!!
This film is underrated. Yes it is a chick flick but I personally think the film can be appreciated by both sexes. Bette Midler plays CC Bloom and Barbara Hershey plays Hilary Whitney. Both are from very different upbringings. CC is demanding, intense but has a good heart, she is desperate for stardom and has been performing since she was young. Hilary is smart, headstrong and a lawyer. They both meet when they are on holiday in Atlantic City when they are teenagers and remain in contact through letters til adulthood. A lot happens through their friendship, but they always remain friends. In my opinion at the end of the film really shows the true extent of their friendship. Hilary has no one but CC and her daughter and CC is there for her til the end. It is a very emotional film but in a way happy because you know Hilary died knowing CC will look after her daughter and they can share memories of her forever.
this movie is my all time favorite movie of all time. From the beginning to the end it is almost like real life events and I can relate to the movie because i myself have been through similar issues. I cry each and every time i watch it. I love the realness of the movie and wish there would have been a part two. We look at life in different ways as humans, but in all reality each of us has personally or even know somebody with a life threatening illness. How does one cope? How do we deal with illness and death? This movie is a great example of real life and how people grow closes and come together even though life has its downs. this movie will always be dear to my heart and i would recommend it to anyone even if it is over 20 years old
I love the movie Beaches so much I bought it on Amazon. Hillary dies of cardiomyopathy in the movie and that's what I have. I watch her sitting outside her beach house or sitting in her pajamas and I think about myself. Also, her last scene in the hospital gasping for air reminds me of myself when I was in the hospital. In the movie, Hillary says you know I can't walk that far when C.C. asks her to go for lobsters. Well, I have the same problem. Whoever made this movie knew what they were talking about when they show Hillary's cardiomyopathy. I just love this movie so much because it shows an accurate description of Hillary's illness. I felt bad for her daughter, Victoria also.
