The evil wizard Gargamel creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties that he hopes will let him harness the all-powerful, magical Smurf-essence. But when he discovers that only a real Smurf can give him what he wants, and only a secret spell that Smurfette knows can turn the Naughties into real Smurfs, Gargamel kidnaps Smurfette and brings her to Paris, where he has been winning the adoration of millions as the world¹s greatest sorcerer. It's up to Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity to return to our world, reunite with their human friends Patrick and Grace Winslow, and rescue her! Will Smurfette, who has always felt different from the other Smurfs, find a new connection with the Naughties Vexy and Hackus or will the Smurfs convince her that their love for her is True Blue?

Don't Believe the Hype
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Now, before you go renting this movie, the Smurfs 2 is a CGI adaption of the cartoon, hand drawn smurfs in the 70s-80s. Few would consider this a "classic". In fact I would consider the classics. The new sequel for the CGI Smurfs has your always "happy ending" and cheesy jokes. At first, Vexy and the other evil smurf (created by gargamel to get revenge on the smurfs) are villains, antagonists, and they turn Smurfette, (Gargamel's original creation) into a villain. Of course in the end, Vexy and the other smurf become good and are accepted as a good smurf. Right in the middle of this movie, it was easy to predict good things would happen. The punchlines are always, cheesy. I honestly thought this movie was a drag and a single laugh didn't come out of me. Especially the "Right in the smurfberries" and "Oh my smurf" which cover up for iffy subjects. The antics are very cheesy as well with getting hit and making messes, farting burping, or being messy. Little kids under 9 would really like this title, and it's more of a family title than something cool pre-teens would watch on a summer day. Nothing very special here at all.
Review: Not only was this movie silly and boring, it also put me off of the little blue people which I grew to love as a child. The director made this film just for kids in mind, without a thought about the adults that have to sit through it with there little ones. I should have known what to expect after seeing the first one, but I was hoping that there would have been something for us people without kids. The CGI was done well, but the storyline was terrible and extremely unrealistic. Maybe they shouldn't use real people next time and just keep it in Smurf la la land! Round-Up: It was weird seeing Brendan Gleeson making a fool of himself throughout the movie, but I'm sure that it won't hurt his career. Neil Patrick Harris is acting the same as he did in the first one so there wasn't that much surprise with his contribution. The new Smurfs that are in this film weren't bad and Gargarmel is up to his usual tricks, trying to capture the Smurfs, but I ended up falling asleep after a while. It's not a bad movie to put on if you want to keep the kids quiet, and judging by the money that it made, I'm sure that your going to see a third one in this franchise, but I'm hoping that they will give it to a different director.Budget: $105million (On What!) Worldwide Gross: $348millionI recommend this movie to kids who are into the Smurfs and silly comedies with mini Avatars. 2/10
The Smurfs 2 With only one female in their species it's surprising that the Smurfs aren't extinct.Magically, the 3-apple-tall genus has thrived in an all-male society - until now. With his supply of Smurf essence depleting, Gargamel (Hank Azaria) sends his latest creations the Naughties (Christina Ricci, J. B. Smoove) to Smurf village to kidnap Smurfette (Katy Perry). With her hostage, Gargamel hopes to gain Papa's (Jonathan Winters) Smurf-making potion so he'll never run out of magical essence. To save Smurfette and stop Gargamel's pending output, a group of misfit Smurfs (Alan Cumming, Anton Yelchin, George Lopez, John Oliver) must travel to Paris and get help from an old friend (Neil Patrick Harris) to do so.Puerile even for the pre-school set, Smurfs 2 plods its way through a predictable predicament, limp one-liners, and maddening Smurf-centric dialogue.Incidentally, with their blue hue maybe the Smurfs are really the corpses of asphyxiated infants. . . . SMURFS 2 does NOT feature any spinning whirly-gigs attached to the character voiced by Perry--Smurfette--'s Whatzits (unlike the concert movie she released earlier in the year). Besides the relative restraint in Smurfette's wardrobe, this film features another passable lead acting performance by Mr. Krinkle as Azrael (Gargamel's cat). While it is true Frank Welker dubs in most of Azrael's vocalizations, I suspect that Mr. Krinkle's acting abilities would stand head and shoulders above the rest of the cast even without the interference of the Loop Group. Jimmy Kimmel is typecast here as the voice of the Passive-Aggressive Smurf, and the same can be said for most of the other questionable Smurf voice "talent," including X Games vet Shaun White as Crazy Smurf, offender registry stalwart Paul Ruebens as Jokey Smurf, one-time NBA genii Shaquille O'Neal as Smooth Smurf (say THAT 10 times fast!), tool guy Jeff Foxworthy as Handy Smurf, and so on. If you're not already in a persistent vegetative state, SMURFS 2 just might do the trick!
