Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

Not only is this a prison picture centered around boxing in jail, it also tells us the outside influences of corruption at all levels permeating through the prison walls. As Mendy Ripstein, the late Peter Falk steals the show as the man who arranges a match between prison champ Wesley Snipes and the heavy weight champ, Ving Rhames, incarcerated on rape conviction charges. We're basically dealing with two fighters with huge egos. They immediately take an aversion towards each other, and you know that the both of them shall eventually come to blows anyway. One of the fighters refuses to throw the fight and Rhames sees this as an opportunity by mobster Ripstein to get him out of jail earlier by the connections he has despite the fact that he has been incarcerated for such a long time.Yes, the ultimate bout finally does take place. Let me say that both men come up winners in this satisfying ending to a very interesting story.

In the world of rank boxing, there are many notable fights which can be measured on one hand. But in the world of Cinamatic boxing there are dozens which have been made into Hollywood legends. In this release, called " Undisputed " the result was the creation of a boxing Classic. It is the story of the Heavyweight Champion of the World, George 'Iceman' Chambers (Ving Rhames) who has been arrested, convicted and sentenced to prison. Undefeated on the outside world, Chambers learns that at Sweetwater Prison, another man shares that distinguished title. That individual is Monroe Hutchen (Wesley Snipes) who hold the record of never having lost a boxing match. However, even though a fight between these two athletes is inevitable, the Warden moves to quash the event. However, Mendy Ripstein a Mafia gangster (Peter Falk) from the old days steps in, uses his considerable influence and the special match is back on. The entire confrontation is seen by officials as a potential explosion, the Captain of the guard, A.J.Mercker (Michael Rooker) believes he can control over 700 riotous inmates and one memorable fight to the finish. Jon Seda, Wes Studi, and Fisher Stevens as James 'Ratbag' Kroycek, add to the dramatic intensity and over all excitement which is the main-stay of this incredible film. With top notch acting and believability of the superior actors, (especially when Rhames and Snipes are equally matched) the result is one cage fight away from memorable entertainment. ****

What a great movie! In this movie there are no good guys or bad guys, just different shades of bad guys. Nobody in this movie is good. Cynicism abounds. Move over Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed. Here comes Monroe Hutchens and George Chambers, and they're tougher, meaner and better actors then anything Balboa and Company could deliver. This movie is fast paced, action packed, tense, with a great plot, as two men immediately square off for the championship of ...? For this is why this movie is so great. It's about anger with no place to go, no place where it can be vented, except in the ring, as hardcore criminals take sides in a fight that plays into their violent natures. The Rocky movies don't even come close to portraying this aspect of boxing. In this movie the fighters ARE violent, they ARE unapologetic and they do NOT like each other. That is, there is no pretentiousness here. The question is a simple one: who will win and who will lose? There are some who may assert that that boxing is portrayed in a negative manner, but that is not the case. In this movie boxing is elevated to the level of a gladiatorial contest where more than money is at stake. So if you want to watch a movie about boxing, this is the movie to watch. It offers the most direct, unabashed, and straightforward examine of one of the most basic form of competition, boxing. Also, Ving Rhames gives a great performance and manages to carry this movie from beginning to the end, and proves once again that he is a great actor.

Iceman is a world champion boxer who is serving time in Sweetwater prison for an alleged rape and here he meets the number boxer in prison, Monroe Hutchen. And now the two will go at it to find out whose greater, the prison champ or the world champ? The concept sounds vaguely familiar with another boxer....Mike something........The film explores the prison life style and the harsh brutality one is faced with while in the company of criminals and violent offenders; I found however the stereotypes very annoying, the Godfather of the prison....I think the character of Ving Rhames and Wesley Snipes should have been changed.....All in a all an average boxing movie...
