To be honest, this might be worst James Wan movie I've seen so far. He plays like always with the clichés, but in this one they are boring. I was bored. Its possible I just miss Farmiga. It picks up once they finally accept to go to rescue their son. And then it picks up again with the final twist, which I didn't see coming. But overall was mediocre, and that surprise made it just fine.

Upon my first viewing I was mildly surprised. If you're expecting blood, gore or hard violence don't see this movie because it doesn't include of that, however what it does is mess with your head. The more the movie progresses forward the more conspicuously darker it becomes and the loud, eerie music tone makes it even more suspenseful. Something that caught my eye in particular are the jump scares. They're real. Not once in this movie does everything go silent while the suspense builds up and then it turns out it was just a cat or a broom... Every single jump scare is a proper jump scare. The subtle camera movement (besides the musical score) makes Insidious's creepiness increase tenfold. That is what makes this movie operative without using any violence. As previously mentioned it isn't perfect and that's because of its heavy reliance on sound effects and the musical score. Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson don't exactly give the most straightforward performances and Wan's sense of direction and Whannell writing makes them look like an inferior early 2000s M. Night Shyamalan. Insidious is not a perfect film but not a lazy one either like a big majority of today's horror.

The film is about...uhm, well about...what was it again? Oh, this was so forgettable. From the preposterous plot and the forced dialogue to the scares (because of sudden loud music and nothing else) to all the obvious plot flaws, this is one I won't be remembering. Cliché upon cliché upon cliché.The first half of the film is subtle and the scares are effective. The second half of the film becomes rather absurd and totally unconvincing, reminding me of the found-footage genre (just less believable).Yawn...

Thrillers these days leave a lot to be desired and aren't very memorable, mostly because of the acting, which, in turn is made horrible because of the script. Considering this, I went into this movie with low expectations (despite going onto IMDB to gather the overall score and skipping the reviews). But...The film was brilliantly written and cast really well! It was suspenseful with low lighting (brilliant) and had me jumping out of my seat at every turn, if not turning my volume down! If you like a good and truly scary movie, then this is it!I can't wait to see the sequel, though sequels are generally known to be worse than the original. But I will give it a go and see how I like it (I'm expecting big things from it, so it'd better no disappoint!)
