How sad is this?
If the handbook to film flaws was in the form of a film, this would be it. This film was just bad on every level. It is so overdone and unnecessarily violent. Jason Statham's character is so one-dimensional, it hurts. So much of the film just doesn't make sense and nothing seems to be justified. The ending renders most of the movie worthless leaving you with a sense of WTF! It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever why The Mechanic did what he did. I hated this film, in fact.
Follows an elite hit man as he teaches his trade to an apprentice who has a connection to one of his previous victims. Although The Mechanic packs some great punches for example the action is good and the tension is pretty cool and both Jason Statham and Ben Foster are really good unfortunately the talented Donald Sutherland is easily wasted very early in the movie, Tony Goldwyn as the villain is easily forgettable and the whole thing with the gay assassin was pretty funny and came out of nowhere it's not a bad action film or even a bad Jason Statham movie but it needed more action and better villains besides that it's a nice action film but nothing more than that.
This film was recommended to me by a friend, and I had nothing else to do at the moment, so I watched it till the end. It was intriguing with first action, but already after 10 minutes I've realized, that this is going to be a total waste of time. Actually the film could just end there! Well shot with some magnificent special FX and action, this is all that it is. All the rest is based on ridiculously bad, shallow-minded and over-abused clichés - the acting, the plot, the direction, lack of story whatsoever, cliché motives, insights and dialogues, etc. And total lack of humor kills it completely. So my recommendation - if you can abstract from all this and just want to watch some killing action, then go ahead. But if you expect something beyond - don't waste your time...
There appears to be no plot. The mechanic is a killer with no purpose. I fast forwarded it several times as it was so boring except the part where he threatens to grate a girl's arm in a washing dispenser but after you see the blood he shows you her arm is fine and that he put a steak in it. I don't get what this is about. It's kind of East Enders style. A couple of thugs from an English pub with American accents. Realistic filming that you feel like you are on a street in London. I would give this a zero but 1 is the lowest. It just doesn't do it. Not a properly planned movie.Nothing like transporter at all.
