Speed
June. 09,1994 RJack Traven, an LAPD cop on SWAT detail, and veteran SWAT officer Harry Temple thwart an extortionist-bomber's scheme for a $3 million ransom. As they corner the bomber, he flees and detonates a bomb vest, seemingly killing himself. Weeks later, Jack witnesses a mass transit city bus explode and nearby a pay phone rings. On the phone is that same bomber looking for vengeance and the money he's owed. He gives a personal challenge to Jack: a bomb is rigged on another city bus - if it slows down below 50 mph, it will explode - bad enough any day, but a nightmare in LA traffic. And that's just the beginning...

After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
I was indeed 10 in 1994. Even back then I loved watching action movies with my Dad. Actually just recently my Father & I watched The John Wick movies (also great). Being 10 there's a lot of things you don't notice... like how mind boggling gorgeous Keanu Reeves was! WHEW. I'll be rewatching Speed a lot more often now that this has been brought to my attention. The movie itself is a nail biter. Even as an adult I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. It was also very realistic. Not counting a few very minor screw ups, I was actually impressed with the special effects and stunts in the movie. Oftentimes if I watch a movie that old, i end up asking myself how I ever believed such a horrendous performance but that isn't the case with Speed. It still keeps up with today's action movies as if it were released yesterday. I'd give it 11 stars if I could find a poster of Keanu's 1994 arms.
As so aptly indicated by its title, the film is fast-paced! Thrilling and exciting from beginning to end with some amazing action sequences, and great suspense, as well. Awesome music and a great cast. This is a thrill-ride deluxe!
If I had written a review of "Speed" in 1994, it would have praised the special effects, the thrills, the tension, the uber-villainy, the charming comic relationship between Keanu and Sandy ...BUT: I watched "Speed" this week for the first time since 1994. The world has changed. Totally and irreversibly changed. Villainy is real and in our face. Explosions occur on a daily basis. It's just not fun to watch any more.It was a good movie. I supposed that it still is. It's just that I could not enjoy it the way that I did back then.
A young cop must prevent a bomb exploding aboard a city bus by keeping its speed above 50 mph. It's easy to see why and how Speed 2 wen't downhill with it's dumb acting and over the top action now the Original Speed is amazing from start to finish the acting is really good and the characters are likable and the action is handled very well done especially with the long chase scenes or the suspense that gets thrown in your face every 2 seconds just like The Matrix and Point Break Keanu Reeves gives a nice performance but also it's another great movie in his acting career. Speed is without a doubt a non stop action packed thriller that works perfectly fine!!
