The film spans from Hepburn's early childhood to the 1950s which details her life as a Dutch ballerina, coming to grips with her parents' divorce, and enduring life in the Nazi-occupied Netherlands during World War II. She then settles in the U.S. where she succeeds in making it big as a movie actress, in such movies as Breakfast at Tiffany's.

I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
So far the comments I have read have been either way to harsh or way to easy on this film. I have seen just about every movie Audrey Hepburn was in, most of them dozens of times. I have also read a lot about her. I will agree with some people's comments that the movie probably shouldn't have been made to begin with because no one can play an actress so well known and unique. Plus from what I have read I think that Audrey Hepburn would have been mortified to have a movie made about her life anyways. If you think about it few movies are ever made about famous actors because people are so familiar with how they look, act, and sound. Having said that, I also think that with all the faults of this movie it was still entertaining to me, and I am a little ashamed to say that I watch it when ever I find it is on TV. I also think that people are being cruel on the subject of Hewitt's performance and looks. Though parts of the performance were not perfect, I doubt anyone could have done better. I think that at times she got the mannerisms of Audrey down quite well. I think it was the writing and directing that sucked. They made Audrey out to be this sad fragile fairy princess, and that is not only unrealistic but also mean. They hardly ever show her laughing except when she is flirting, and the rest of the time she appears to be on the brink of tears, again this is just bad direction and writing. The movie also could have been much better if they cut down on parts (like Mel's speeches) and portrayed her entire life. To sum up I will not stop watching this movie, or stop laughing at parts (like when Audrey is telling her father that she named her cat 'Tomorrow' so she could say "everything will be alright Tomorrow" when she got rejected). Good times!
I am one of the biggest Audrey Hepburn fans out there and this movie made me literally cry.Jennifer Love Hewitt was horrible. Her accent in the movie was NO where near Audrey's. Her laugh and personality didn't capture anything. Plus, not only was Hewitt horrible, but the plot was too. A lot of the events in the movie did NOT happen in Audrey's real life. Sean Hepburn-Ferrer, Audrey's son said he watched this movie and was very disappointed. Well if i was her son, i would be too! When people say someone else should have played Hepburn, like Natalie Portman, or Winona Ryder, that's also ridiculous. NO ONE in Hollywood history could EVER be Audrey Hepburn. She was graceful, classy, had an amazing sense of style and something that can't be described. What a disappointment.
This movie was great!! I know for a fact for I have read all the booksever written about Audrey Hepburn. It shows the main points of Audrey's life and I think Jennifer Love Hewitt played the part perfectly. Not only is she petite like Audrey was she looks a lot like Hepburn I don't anybody else could of played the part better than JLH.Natalie Portman would of sucked in the role because she doesn't look or sound a bit like Ms.Hepburn. I thought the great details in the voice JLH used was wonderful. The extent that the film showed of Audrey's early childhood showed that she had a hard time in Holland and that most of her childhood she was fatherless I find that Audrey was very lucky to have a mother that supported her through what ever she sought out to do. And that when looking for love it did not matter if the man had money or not because she turned down that one man to keep working on Broadway. As I said JLH couldn't of down a better job.
There is nobody better suited for the part of playing Audrey Hepburn than Claire Forlani. Forget Natalie Portman, forget Winona Ryder. Watch Claire in Meet Joe Black with Brad Pitt or Boys And Girls with Freddie Prinze.Once you look into it, you'll agree with me and you will ache thinking about how perfect it could have been with her and not Jennifer Love Hewitt. Claire not only looks very much like Audrey Hepburn, she even seems to carry some of her mannerisms. Even deliberately so in Boys And Girls. And I don't think there is any question Jennifer Love Hewitt is probably one of the lesser elegant actresses out there, not even to mention she just doesn't have the chops for more than TV shows like Party Of Five or I Know What You Did Last Summer.Maybe Claire will get her chance in a better production soon.
