Very disappointing...
I'll tell you why so serious
Did you people see the same film I saw?
It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
I have browsed the reviews and see mixed views on this film. I'll keep this one short and sweet. I was recommended this movie by a friend about a month ago and after some searching, I was able to purchase a copy online. I am a bit of a movie connoisseur and poor acting tends to do my head in, so was a tad put off at the beginning due to the less than professional acting, but the story is solid; one that we can all relate to in one way or another and I soon overcame this "issue", and I found myself letting it slide. The make up and special effects are (in my opinion) of high quality. Horror/Thriller movies so often use poor make up and fake blood, mixed with bad lighting, so that the fake blood looks like raspberry jam or something obviously not blood. The FX and lighting crew should pat themselves on the back for their great efforts. The SAW like scenes made me grimace on more than a few occasions and at one point made me look away briefly, which is not like me at all. It was hard to rate this one due to the acting, but I gave it an 7 because there is no 7.5 star option. I am writing this review after just finishing watching the film and I think my rating is fair and I do recommend this little B grade gem to anyone who is capable of allowing less than great acting to be excused in return for a ripper story and some great Special effects. To any dirty Pedophiles, Rapists and Murders out there, I wish the contents of this movie was standard practice within the "so called" justice system. Gaol is too good for you filthy scumbags. Enjoy
So, i'm compelled to write my opinion because i think there are too many fake reviews about this one. I love horror movies, it is my go- to genre when i need pure entertainment since i was a kid, literally 12/13 years old and with my mates, we would gather and watch splatters or slashers. Through the years, my tastes changed - my favorites are the so called "folk horrors" or the ones involving paranormal/mystery - a river of blood and guts doesn't make the movie scarier and a good suspense is hundreds times more effective. This one if far from being the best movie from Australia, actually Australia has a pretty healthy production of horror movies lately! So don't pay attention to those comments here saying it's innovative or a game-changer by all means. It is a very basic revenge-horror with very graphic torture scenes, borderline with splatter. I have to say the special effects are really good here, so if this for you could be a plus, you need to watch it! For me they are important but there must be a good story behind it. The acting is very poor, usually i don't complain but the actor playing Colin is really bad (i feel sorry for saying that, probably he's a good chap)... and sometimes the dialogs are so silly! I also hate how the killer is discovered, it's all so random that i had a hard time believing it was all that simple ... because until that moment, the construction wasn't awful. I just discovered i recently watched the second movie made by Daddy's Little Girl's director Chris Sun - it's called Charlie's Family and it's way way way better!
Its been about two years since this films release, and for some reason I don't know why I haven't watched it till now. I thought I would watch this movie to support an Australian filmmaker and to support a film made in my area. What I have noticed in most Australian horror films is that most of them have a good storyline, but really bad actors, CGI or Special Effects, and this just does not give the film a good look. So when I pushed play, the first thing going through my mind was, I best prepare myself for terrible effects and terrible acting which was just going to make me cringe, the only thing I was looking forward to was the storyline..... Well I can tell you now, after watching this film, I must say, NEVER HAVE I BEEN SO WRONG. This entire film was enjoyable from start to finish, well some of it a bit uncomfortable but you will have to see those parts for yourself. The acting throughout the whole film is absolutely on point, especially when it comes to little Billi Baker, man that girl pulls off her cuteness and innocence really good throughout her time in the film, and hats off to Michael Thomson, this guy is awesome, from switching to cool surfer dad to the messed in the head revenge giver is why I give him credit for being a great Australian actor. There was also good acting from minor roles as well and the extras were not to bad.Slaughter FX definitely live down their name, but I guess I can't go to deep into that so lets just say the SFX are pretty bloody good Now the storyline the most loved part of Australian films in my opinion. I am telling you now, besides the fact I think this is one of the greatest story lines I have seen in a film, it is basically an emotional roller coaster. the movie basically goes like this: Happiness then Distressed then Relief then Absolute Gut Wrenching Sadness then More Sadness then it Gradually Gets Happier then Anger then Uncomfortable Feelings With Humour then Sadness then Happiness/sadness, This movie does not get boring I swear, the only downside to the story line was that it took about 40mins to get to the main twist and have the real stuff to start. it might sound weird coming from a guy but this movie made me cry like a little girl... twice. In my opinion this movie has got to have one of the most touching, saddest yet happiest endings off all time... yes I literally put 3 different emotions for one ending, I did say this movie is an emotional roller coaster. So ill have to end this review off with saying that you should definitely watch this movie if your into messed up sh*t, but also love a good story line. it is indeed one of the greatest Australian films I have ever seen.
In it's starting, you really think you're in for a good quality drama, which later, sadly, gives way to some of the most tortuous, hard to stomach violence, I've seen, there's a lot. But don't get me wrong, on the other side of that token, the culprit in question, which becomes a devastating blow of shock, as being family, where in the back of mind here and there, I suspected him, deserves everything he gets. This movie opens your eyes to a lot of things, about how precious children are. Shot in Queensland, this film, worse than any horror movie, I must say, suffers from a bad script and mostly laughable overacting, unconvincing, but embarrassing too, although the three leads are genuinely quite good, especially the father. When acted at the start by these three, it was more naturalistic acting that really worked. A father who's baby girl is snatched, stumbles onto the truth while at the party of the younger brother, where in the previous six months, he's dealt with the grief and unbearable pangs of heartache, after losing his little angel. Blaming the wife for not properly fixing the window, I'm on his side, where watching this film, I really hope that this a pre warning to parents out there to ensure little jobs like this are dealt with. The killer too has kept a sick diary of horrid details, not just about killing his niece, but other little kids too. When the torture starts, let me warn you, it's very graphic, if underestimated, much like the victims of the Asian torture porn flick, Grotesque, as so what's left of the state of this victim too. There's very funny moments too, which this avenging father, during torture session, 101, thanks to some of the dialogue, which I must say is pretty ordinary, if stereotyped. Watching just how much pain, this poor ba..ard, endures, had me wondering what that really feel like. How much pain, can a guy endure, and let me tell me tell you, he does a lot of squirming. The plucking out tooth scene, had me licking my teeth to confirm if I still had em', it was the most unbearably visual moment. Daddy's Little Girl shows a lot of promise early, but in it's neat hour, it's resorts to such sick and reprehensible violence, to illustrate the points and consequences of about being a child murderer and paedophile, where real justice even though excessive, in my opinion, is warranted and truly justified, where many of the film's viewers who have kids will feel that way, too.
