Okay, it's not the worst. It has some bad stuff in it, mainly over the story setting. Apparently it is completely easy for a magician to steal a handful of diamonds and also to escape from prison several years later by using his tricks. Much of the acting was great, and some of the dialogs were good too. I personally enjoyed Michael Conolly's monologue at the morgue, though it proved pointless to the plot. I hated Portia de Rossi's character. There's no explanation of why she's such a bitch, and she's annoying most of the part. RuPaul was totally unnecessary. He's just some weird transvestite neighbor who has the hot's for Finch. And, of course, he has to act all macho in the end, I don't know why. Tim Allen was good, interesting character. My favorite scene with him was in the subway. It was a little disturbing to see him curse like that, but it was funny. The mobsters were very good, but they had too much development for what the central story was. Good music, although it was too dramatic for chase scenes, average script, great actors, not to good of an ending. It's not very good, but it isn't really that bad. It's sort of in between. Either way, it's watchable.

Amazingly, I had not heard of this film. Tim Allen just blew meaway with this one...The interplay between Slater and Allen isgreat chemistry. A very funny, quirky story and some really nice twists makes this one an 8 for me. Classic movie referencesthroughout the movie added to the fun...The line where Allen asks Slater, "Anybody ever tell you that you have a Jack Nicholson quality about you"? Please give this one a try. It is so nice to "find" a little movie that has a small budget and modest production that scores big on story, acting, direction and intelligence. Don't take my word for it..check it out...You won't be sorry..

While watching this movie on Showtime OnDemand, I was continually comparing this film to Pulp Fiction. The "cold" opening, the non-linear sequencing, the lovable hit men, they all remind me of the '94 classic. Nearing the end of the movie, I discovered it wasn't only similar to Pulp, but also True Romance, Snatch, and The Usual Suspects. I even saw a tiny hint of Resevoir Dogs stuck in there. The writer of this movie obviously did his research on good-movie-making before creating this unsung masterpiece. The unintelligent hit men were so Tarantinoesque, I'm surprised Quentin didn't sue the writer. The use of out-of-work actors like Slater and Allen was also very Tarantino-like. (What was the last movie John Travolta did before Pulp Fiction?) I haven't seen Slater act this well since '93 in True Romance. I love Allen's sitcom, and I watch reruns everyday on the Superstation, but his movie career hasn't always been so solid. Big Trouble was very good for him, and I am surprised as to why he hasn't gotten more roles since his performance. Who is Cletis Tout? gives me more respect for Allen. The way this film gives you little details at a time reminds me of The Usual Suspects. The ending isn't even near Usual's, but the rest was enjoyable.I loved this movie, and I give it 8/10.

WHO IS CLETUS TOUT is one of those movies that is surprisingly better than expectations will allow. Christian Slater plays a con who gets mistaken for a man wanted by the mob, and Tim Allen is a hitman who needs a reality check. There's a lot of chuckles to be had, and the film as a whole works.6 out of 10
