Excellent, Without a doubt!!
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
Unlike some of the other users, i actually liked this movie. OK, so i saw it when i was younger and haven't seen it since, i loved it when i was little. I used to wish that my life could be like Sydney's. Living in Hawaii, sneaking out of the house to go watch the whales, inheriting part of Hawaii, surfing, and having a cute Hawaiian surfer fall in love with me. It's all good. Great, once again, i can't submit this comment until i hav ten lines of text. Does anyone know which island this movie was filmed on. Did anyone see "When a Stranger calls", it's weird, i hadn't seen this movie in so many years, or seen Camilla Bell in years, but i recognized her the minute i saw her in the trailer for "When a Stranger Calls."
I loved this movie! It was so cute! Camilla Belle played Sydney very well! Was this movie based on a book? Well anyway, it has such a great plot, and I love the surfing scenes. Even though it is on Disney Channel, it was done very well, a lot better than the movies they produce now. I wish I could see it again, but they never play it! But, it was one of the best Disney movies. They didn't spoil it or anything, they kept it real unlike the movies they produce now. I wish they could do a sequel. It would be so cool to see Camilla Belle again even though she is a lot older now. If you haven't seen it, you can catch it on Disney Channel usually twice during the summer.
Ignore the ramblings above, posted by someone who seems to want to talk more about herself than the movie in question.Rip Girls is a wonderful little creation by Disney, yes, but they do churn out some pretty good made-for-TV movies. In this case about a young girl used to the city streets of Chicago who inherits a piece of Hawaiian paradise. Her father would sooner have her sell it to a resort developer but she finds herself discovering her roots, learning the secrets of her mother's life, and making new friends. The developers want to take advantage of her. Her new "friends" are trying to influence her. And her father doesn't listen to her, treating her like a little kid. But in the end, she's the one holding all the cards and she only wants to do the right thing.Like most Disney films, this one shines on-screen and is acted better by the young cast, led by gorgeous Camilla Belle, than the adult cast, that seems largely stale and plastic. With beautiful Hawaiian scenery and culture, Rip Girls is also a lot of fun with the surfing and the skating. You don't need a movie ticket to see this one, so check it out. And see a young actress who knows how to act.By the way, that kiss mentioned is a tiny little peck. Hardly as involved as you'd expect a lusty teenager to behave.
Ver-E cute! I thought this was the most well done of the Disney tv movies I've seen. It's really an all ages movie, and it's something I could watch with my siblings, and my parents. I'd give this movie a 9.3 out of ten. I encourage everyone to see it.
